ATLANTA, Ga. – The 15th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to 19th-ranked Sewanee on Saturday afternoon in the Fab 7 Tournament hosted by Emory University.
The Generals stole the No. 1 and 2 doubles wins to start the day, 2-1. The sophomore team of Patricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall) and Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va./Flint Hill) won, 8-2, and teammates junior Cameron Dorsey (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) and sophomore Meghan Buell (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) also claimed an 8-2 win, respectively.
The Tigers then took all but two singles' victories to pull away for the win. Buell at No. 2 (6-2, 6-3) and Kirkland at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-2) were the only Generals to walk away with a singles' win.
W&L falls to 11-3 on the year with the loss.
The Generals return to the court on Sunday, when they are set to face No. 2 Amherst at 9:00 am.
