LEXINGTON, Va. – The 15th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team flew past Randolph-Macon, 9-0, on Friday at the W&L outdoor tennis courts.
Junior Claire Cahill (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis) and first-year Katie Florescu (Merritt Island, Fla./Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy) went 2-0 on the day to lead the Generals. Cahill teamed up with junior Chelsea Mixson (Beaufort, S.C./Hilton Head Prep) to take the No. 2 doubles victory, 8-1, and then she claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 in singles play. Florescu and senior Laura Simmons (Phoenix, Md./Bryn Mawr) blanked the Yellow Jackets, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles, and she took her second victory at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
With the win, W&L is now 5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference action.
The Generals will take on Virginia Wesleyan this evening.
