GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The seventh-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team fell to No. 15 Trinity (Texas), 5-4, on Friday in the first round of the ITA Division III Women's Team Indoor Championship, hosted by DePauw University.
The Generals started out the day with a 2-1 mark in doubles. Trinity's only win came at the number three group, where Kristy Hamilton and Stephanie Williamson bested W&L's duo of junior Claire Cahill (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis) and sophomore Allison Hupalo (Weston, Mass./Weston), 8-2.
W&L then went 2-4 in singles action, with sophomore Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va./Flint Hill) and junior Chelsea Mixson (Beaufort, S.C./Hilton Head Prep) the only two to claim a win. Meighan defeated Mackenzie Knoop at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1, while Mixson took the victory at No. 5 over Gabrielle Roe, 6-2, 6-3.
With the loss, the Generals will face Skidmore in the consolation round on Saturday. Action is set to begin at 8:30 am.
