ASHLAND, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's tennis team claimed its 22nd Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship title after defeating Hollins, 5-0, in the championship match on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Randolph-Macon.
The Generals were able to sweep Hollins in doubles action, allowing them to have a 3-0 advantage entering singles play. In singles, first-year Meghan Buell (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and sophomore Cameron Dorsey (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) earned the final two victories for W&L, as it took its 10th-consecutive ODAC title.
Buell and Dorsey also had two wins on the day. Buell won at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and at No. 2 doubles, 8-0, with first-year Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va./Flint Hill). Dorsey recorded wins at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and at No. 3 doubles, 8-1, with senior Jen Snyder (Highland Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy).
With the win, Washington and Lee has earned an automatic bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament to take place on May 11-13 with the first, second and third rounds.
