FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The fifth-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team swept No. 24 Mary Washington, 9-0, on Friday afternoon at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
With the victory, W&L improved to 16-5 on the season, while UMW fell to 13-6 overall.
Senior Lauren Lukas (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and first-year Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va./Flint Hill) each recorded two wins against the Eagles. Lukas teamed up with senior Trelsie Sadler (Wakefield, R.I./Groton School) at No. 1 doubles to defeat Casey Malcolm and Lindsay Raulston of UMW, 8-3, and then took down Michelle Meadows at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Meighan joined first-year Meghan Buell (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) at No. 3 doubles to post a score of 8-0 over the Eagles' Maddy Martin and Manda, and defeated Raulston, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 1 singles position.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they host Lynchburg for an ODAC Tournament Quarterfinal matchup, set to begin at 2:00 pm.
