LEXINGTON, Va. – Fourth-ranked Emory upset No. 3 Washington and Lee, 5-2, in women's tennis at the Fab Five Invitational on Saturday morning, held at the Duchossois Tennis Center.
With the loss, W&L fall to 14-4 on the season and Emory is now holding an 8-3 overall record.
The Generals entered singles action down 2-1 after winning just one match in doubles play. First-year Patricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall) and sophomore Cameron Dorsey (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) defeated Catharine Harris and Jordan Wylie for the victory at No. 3 doubles.
Emory then claimed wins at the No. 2, 3 and 5 singles positions to take the 5-2 decision over W&L. The match was only played to five points due to weather conditions and indoor space restrictions.
First-year Allison Hupalo (Weston, Mass./Weston) was the lone singles victor for the Generals, notching a score of 6-4, 4-6, 15-13 at No. 6 singles. No. 1 and 4 singles were not completed because of the limitations.
W&L returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Carnegie Mellon for a 12:00 pm contest.
