LEXINGTON, Va. – The third-ranked Washington and Lee
women's tennis team defeated No. 7 Tufts, 6-3, on Thursday on day
two of the Fab Five Invitational, hosted by W&L.
The Generals now hold a 14-3 overall record, while Tufts falls
to 2-3 overall.
W&L started the day posting a 2-1 record in doubles play,
with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
Singles play brought tough competition for both teams, as four
match-ups went into a third set. W&L was able to claim four
victories at the No. 2, 4, 5 and 6 spots to seal the win.
Senior Trelsie
Sadler (Wakefield, R.I./Groton School) and first-year Patricia Kirkland
(Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall) each registered a 2-0 day for the
Generals. Sadler joined senior Jen Snyder (Highland
Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) at No. 1 doubles, defeating Shelci
Bowman and Sophie Schonfeld, 8-5, and continued the day with a win
over Rebecca Kimmel at No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-4). Kirkland teamed up
with sophomore Cameron
Dorsey (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) at No. 3 doubles to
defeat Samantha Gann and Janice Lam, 8-5, then later took down Gann
in No. 4 singles action (6-3, 1-6, 6-4).
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they face No. 4
Emory for their final contest during the Fab Five Invitational. The
match is set to begin at 10:00 am.
