CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Washington and Lee women's tennis team saw its 2011 season come to an end with a 5-0 loss to Emory University in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Tuesday morning at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
The Generals dropped matches at Nos. 1-2 doubles and had an opportunity to seal at point at No. 3 doubles, but the pair of senior Catherine Reed (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) and junior Ann Morris (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) fell 9-8 after losing the tiebreaker by a score of 7-4.
In singles, juniors Ellen Yeatman (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) and Trelsie Sadler (Wakefield, R.I./Groton School) were both defeated in straight sets at Nos. 1 & 4, respectively, advancing the Eagles to the national semifinals on Wednesday.
W&L will have a presence in the individual championships which begin on Friday. The tandem of juniors Lauren Lukas (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and Sadler will compete in the doubles championship, while Yeatman will participate in the singles championship.
