MONROEVILLE, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee women's tennis team recovered from a 4-2 deficit to post a 5-4 victory over Carnegie Mellon in the third round of the NCAA Division III tennis championship on Saturday morning.
The Generals (20-6) fell behind 2-1 following the doubles competition and won just one of the first three singles matches to fall behind 4-2. However, junior Ellen Yeatman (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) recovered from a 6-1 setback in her opening set to win the next two sets, 7-5 and 6-4, to keep W&L's chances alive. Junior Trelsie Sadler (Wakefield, R.I./Groton School) then notched a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles and senior Catherine Reed (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) closed the match out with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.
With the loss, Carnegie Mellon's season ended with a 13-9 overall record. The Generals now advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals on May 24 in Claremont, Calif., where they will face Emory University.
