PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon men's
tennis team defeated 25th-ranked Washington and Lee by a score of
6-3 on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Generals dropped two of the three doubles positions, but
recovered to post wins at No. 1 & 2 singles. First-year
Hayden White (Baltimore, Md./Towson) and sophomore Jeremy Becht
(Woodstock, Ga./Etowah) combined to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, while
White posted a 7-6, 1-6, 6-2 win over Alex Nemerov at No. 1
singles. Becht knocked off James Muliawan by a score of 6-3,
6-3 at No. 2 doubles, but W&L could not come through in any of
the bottom four singles positions to fall to 15-8 on the
season. CMU improved to 19-5.
Washington and Lee will return to action in the first round of
the NCAA Division III Tournament to be held on May 14 at a site to
be determined.
