LEXINGTON, Va. -- The
Washington and Lee men's tennis team dropped its first ODAC match
of the season with a 5-4 loss at Hampden-Sydney on Friday
afternoon.
The
Generals (7-4, 0-1) lost to Hampden-Sydney for the
second-consecutive match after suffering a 5-3 loss to the Tigers
in the 2009 ODAC Championship match.
In this
season's meeting, W&L opened up a 2-1advantage following the
doubles matches after winning No. 1 and No.3 doubles.
However, only junior Will Hall (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape
Elizabeth) and senior Alex Brooke (Alexandria, Va./Cheyenne
Mountain) were able to win their singles matches as the Tigers
claimed the 5-4 win. Hall defeated Shad Harrell, 6-4, 6-3, at
No. 3 singles, while Brooke knocked off Zack Pack at No. 6 singles,
6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
With
the loss, W&L dropped to 7-4 overall and 6-1 in the ODAC, while
the Tigers improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in conference
play.
Washington and Lee
returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts Lynchburg for a 4:00 pm
contest.
