Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – The 13th-ranked Washington and Lee
men's lacrosse team used an 8-0 run over the first and second
periods to pull away for a 13-4 victory over Sewanee on Wednesday
evening in Sewanee, Tenn.
Washington and Lee (2-0) broke open a 1-1 game in the first
quarter with a pair of goals before the end of the frame and then
tacked on six more tallies across the second period for a 9-1 lead
at the break in posting the nine-goal victory.
W&L held a 41-19 advantage in shots and a 34-21 edge in
ground balls.
Senior attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) led the
Generals with two goals and two assists, while junior attackman
Spence Daw (Phoenix, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) notched two goals and
one helper. First-year attackman Mac Means (Sewickley,
Pa./Sewickley Academy) scored a pair of goals and senior midfielder
Chris Washington (Flint, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingwood) chipped in one
goal and one assist.
Senior goalkeeper Matt Mason (Gladwyne, Pa./St. Mary's)
played the first 45 minutes in goal and posted six saves, while
allowing two goals. Junior Jason Lumpkin (Baltimore, Md./Calvert
Hall) and sophomore Weston Beard (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's)
played the final 15 minutes in goal and combined for four saves.
Pierce Leonard paced the Tigers (0-2) with two goals, while
Stewart Calder played all 60 minutes between the pipes and recorded
12 saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts
Wittenberg for a 1:00 pm contest.
