W&L Baseball Falls To Emory, 15-6

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Emory pounded out 16 hits and scored 15 runs in a 15-6 win over Washington and Lee in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.

The Eagles (2-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but the Generals scored two runs in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 5-2.

Emory then opened up the game with three runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth, including a two-run double by sophomore third baseman Frank Pfister to take a commanding 13-2 advantage.

W&L responded with two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, but the Eagles ended the scoring with a pair of runs in the eighth inning.

Junior designated hitter Richard Garland (Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington Heights) went 2-for-2 and scored two runs to lead the Generals. Senior first baseman Taylor McConnell (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) and senior centerfielder David Mackenzie (Vienna, Va./James Madison) each went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Sophomore lefthander John Parker (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) allowed eight runs on seven hits in four innings to suffer the loss (0-1).

Emory senior leftfielder Travis Langley batted 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, while junior shortstop Mike Levin also went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI. Junior righthander Ian Ganzer allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits in five innings to pick up the win (1-0).

W&L returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Oglethorpe for a 4:00 pm contest.
