FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team saw its five-game winning streak end, yet remained unbeaten on the season as the Generals tied Mary Washington, 1-1, Saturday afternoon.
Washington and Lee (5-0-1) took a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to a goal from sophomore midfielder Kerry Giblin (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), but Mary Washington evened the score at 1-1 midway through the second half to send the game into extra minutes. Jessica Hewitt scored the Eagles' goal off an assist from Joeann Walker.
Junior Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) served all 110 minutes in the net for the Generals, making one save against two Mary Washington shots. Mary Elizabeth Fulco staffed the Eagles' goal, stopping three W&L shots.
Mary Washington held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks while both squads recorded seven shots on the afternoon.
The Generals return to action tomorrow, Sun., Sept. 28 when they host Mary Baldwin. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
