LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore midfielder Meghan Dennehy (Gambillis, Md./Arundel) scored three second-half goals to help Limestone snap Washington and Lee's nine-game winning streak with a 10-7 win on Saturday afternoon at the Liberty Hall Fields.
The Saints, ranked No. 3 in Division II, broke a 3-2 W&L lead with three unanswered goals in the final 11:47 in the first half to take a 5-3 advantage after 30 minutes of play.
The Generals (15-3) closed to within a goal on a score by sophomore attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) just 49 seconds into the second half, however Dennehy found the net at the 26:30 mark to give the Saints a two-goal edge. W&L junior attacker Emily Owens (Waco, Texas/Episcopal) cut the lead to 6-5 on a goal 42 seconds later and senior attacker Liz Borges (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) tied the game at the 20:31 mark.
Limestone answered back on a goal by junior midfielder Angie Meyer (Hanover, Md./North County), but Borges tied the game with an unassisted tally with 20:31 to play. Sophomore attacker Kathy Campbell (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's) put the Saints on top for good with a goal 42 seconds later and Dennehy then scored two of her game-high four goals to close out Washington and Lee.
The Saints were led by Dennehy, and junior attacker Becky Buppert (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) who notched one goal and added two assists. Senior goalie Vicky Perkins (Manlius, N.Y./CBA) stopped seven shots on the day.
Borges netted three goals for the Generals, while Bogart and freshman midfielder Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) each added a goal and one assist.
W&L, ranked No. 15 in Division III, will now move on to the NCAA Tournament with the date, time and opponent to be determined tomorrow evening.
