ATLANTA, Ga. -- Emory scored five first-inning runs en route to a 10-3 victory over Washington and Lee on Tuesday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.
The Generals (1-1) out-hit the Eagles, 13-11, but stranded 17 runners on base. W&L left the bases loaded in the fifth and seventh innings and two men on base in the first, second, fourth and sixth frames.
Kyle Foster led the way for Emory (2-1), going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Drew Schwartz added two hits and three runs scored for the Eagles.
Sophomore third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) went 3-for-5 with two doubles for the Generals, while freshman centerfielder Austin Allain (Weston, Mass./Weston) picked up three hits in four plate appearances and drove in one run. Sophomore second baseman Todd
Johnson (Windsor Locks, Conn./Windsor Locks) and sophomore shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) each added an RBI as well.
Freshman pitcher Mike Wert (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) took the loss for W&L, surrendering 10 runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Washington and Lee will take on Oglethorpe on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 pm in Atlanta, Ga.
