W&L Football Ends Season With a 46-14 Win Over Greensboro

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee forced four turnovers and outgained Greensboro, 493-200, in defeating the Pride, 46-14, on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Generals (5-5) were led by senior running back Marc Watson (Marietta, Ga./Walton), who rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns and caught five passes for 74 yards. Watson became W&L's career rushing leader on a 41-yard touchdown run with 8:17 remaining in the game. His career total of 3,112 yards surpassed the record of 3,072 held by Stewart Atkinson since the 1979 season.

Watson was complimented by junior running back Chris Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights), who rushed for 118 yards and three scores. Sullivan also returned a punt 71 yards to the Pride 2-yard line setting up senior fullback Kyle Overstreet's (White Oak, Texas/White Oak) 1-yard touchdown run with 13:00 remaining in the game. Sullivan finishes the season with a W&L-record 2,024 all-purpose yards.

The Generals opened the scoring on a 13-yard touchdown run by Watson with 8:38 remaining in the first quarter. Sullivan then scored all three of his touchdowns in the second quarter, the last coming with 21 seconds left until the half.

Greensboro (5-5) returned the ensuing kickoff to the W&L 35-yard line and got on the board two plays later as senior wide receiver George Washington (Brooklyn, N.Y./Manhattan) hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Tommy Waters (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Cooper City) as time expired in the first half.

For the Generals, sophomore quarterback Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) completed 14-of-23 attempts for 177 yards, while junior tight end Jay Thomas (Houston, Texas/Kincaid) snared four passes for 68 yards. Senior linebacker Jeff Bahl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day) amassed 11 tackles, blocked a punt and recovered a fumble. Senior cornerback Chris Shortall (San Anselmo, Calif./Marin Catholic) recorded four tackles, two interceptions and blocked a punt.

Greensboro was led by freshman slotback Quentin Caldwell (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook), who rushed for 50 yards and one touchdown on eight carries. Waters completed 8-of-22 attempts for 105 yards and one touchdown, but was intercepted three times. Junior linebacker Josh Daniels (Wanchese, N.C./Manteo) led the Pride defense with 13 tackles and a fumble recovery.
