LEXINGTON, Va. - Junior
Wesley Howenstein and First-year
Ryan Clemens of the Washington and Lee University football team were selected to the
D3football.com Region 3 All-Region teams, the organization announced on Wednesday afternoon.
This marks the third straight season with at least two All-Region honorees with Howenstein garnering a First Team selection since Josh Breece '22 received the distinction in his rookie campaign. Both Howenstein and Clemens earned their first postseason recognition from the organization.
Howenstein anchored the Generals' offensive line, which produced a potent rushing attack and ranked as one of the best units in Division III this season. As a unit, the offensive line helped the Blue and White rush for over 3,600 yards this season while averaging 316.9 yards per game, which ranked second in the Division III The rushing attack averaged 5.7 yards per carry and found the end zone 37 times. The offensive line ranked third in the nation, only allowing four sacks all season while ranking second in the country in tackles for loss allowed with an average of 2.50. Howenstein was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) Lineman of the Year as well as a First Team All-ODAC selection.
Clemens had a breakout rookie campaign for the Blue and White, rushing for 1,086 yards on 159 carries and 10 touchdowns while averaging 6.8 yards per rush. He posted the third straight 1,000-yard season from a running back, joining
Jacob Romero '25 who reached the milestone in back-to-back seasons. Starting the final five games of the season, he rushed for over 100 yards in each contest, including a 223-yard, three-touchdown performance in a win over Roanoke. Clemens finished the season ranked ninth in Division III in rushing yards per carry (6.83), 29th in total rushing yards (1,086) and 38th in rushing yards per game (98.7). He was named a Second Team All-ODAC selection while being named the ODAC's Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 2 while garnering
D3football.com Team of the Week honors on Nov. 11.
The Blue and White finished the season with a 7-4 overall record, posting a 5-2 mark in ODAC play to secure their 10th straight winning season. The Generals were selected to play in the Cape Charles Bowl as part of the Chesapeake Challenge, where they defeated Lycoming College, 14-12, to hoist a trophy for the second straight season.
