ATLANTA, Ga. -- The sixth-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team was defeated by third-seeded Savannah College of Art & Design, 1-15, 15-11, 15-10, 7-15, 11-15, in the opening round of the NCAA South Region Volleyball Tournament held at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
The Generals were led by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who posted 15 kills, seven digs, and four blocks. Senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) ended her illustrious W&L career with a nine-kill, 11-dig performance, while sophomore outside hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) collected 15 kills and six digs. Junior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) notched 10 digs and junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) amasses a team-high 23 assists.
Savannah A&D (22-9) was led by Mandy Stinson, who totaled 18 kills. The Bees racked up a .336 hitting percentage as a team.
W&L's season ends with a 22-7 overall record. SCAD improved to 22-9 and will play fourth-seeded Austin College on Friday at 7:30 pm.
