McCabe, Caldwell & Datz headline W&L's All-ODAC recipients

5/6/2026 2:15:00 PM

FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its 2026 Men's Lacrosse all-conference teams and award winners on Wednesday, and Washington and Lee brought home three of the major awards and 11 All-ODAC selections.

Head Coach Gene McCabe was named the Coach of the Year, first-year Luke Caldwell earned Rookie of the Year and senior Chris Datz was voted as the ODAC/Va. Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar Athlete of the Year to headline the W&L honorees. Below are the Generals' All-ODAC selections:

McCabe collects his fifth ODAC Coach of the Year award and third in the last four seasons after leading the Generals to a 15-5 overall record through 20 games. This included a 9-1 record in conference play to claim the ODAC regular season title, before the Generals dominated their way to the conference tournament title this past Saturday, 18-8, over then seventh-ranked Lynchburg. McCabe, who also reached his 300th career coaching win this season, has the Generals riding high into the NCAA Tournament this weekend, as the team is winners of nine straight games and 12 of the last 13.

Caldwell has put together one of the best offensive seasons in W&L men's lacrosse history. A starter in all 20 games, Caldwell has 94 points on 49 goals and 45 assists to rank second on the team and Top-3 in the ODAC for each. His assists and points totals are not only Top-3 marks in single-season program history, but they are both program records for a first-year player. Caldwell also has 31 ground balls and seven caused turnovers this season.

Datz brings home the 10th ODAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award for W&L men's lacrosse and fourth in the last five seasons, on top of his Second Team All-ODAC citation. On the field, Datz is tied for second on the team in caused turnovers (15) and is fourth in ground balls (49), plus one goal on the offensive end.

Off the field, Datz is a business administration major and creative writing minor, who has been named a W&L Scholar Athlete all eight terms and is 3-for-3 in making the ODAC All-Academic Team. Datz was also a 2024-25 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection in the "At-Large" category, in addition to being a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.

Haley has put together one of the finest offensive seasons in program history to pack a powerful 1-2 punch with Caldwell on the W&L attack. He leads the ODAC in both assists (49) and points (103), while ranking second in goals (54), to go along with 33 ground balls and six caused turnovers. During the ODAC title game, Haley became just the second player in program history to amass 100 points in a single season (Hudson Pokorny '23 | 109 | 2023). Haley's high-end production has also vaulted him into the Top-5 career lists in program history for goals (159), assists (112) and points (271).

Cohen has had yet another strong season as a defensive midfielder for the Generals, totaling 35 points on 12 goals and 23 assists, with 28 ground balls and three caused turnovers. Cohen has career highs in goals, assists and points this season, with his offensive production even higher in the ODAC Tournament with 10 points on two goals and eight assists.

O'Keefe leads the Generals in caused turnovers for a second consecutive season with 28, to go along with 34 ground balls. O'Keefe has caused a turnover in 15 games this season, with multiple in eight, plus he has scored five goals this season which is the most among W&L defensemen.

Beatty is enjoying a career season as a senior with 15 caused turnovers, 52 ground balls and eight points on six goals and two assists. Another standout defensive midfielder, Beatty's 15 caused turnovers are far and away a single-season career high, while his mark of 52 ground balls ranks third on the team and the most among non-faceoff players.

Mikkelson has excelled on faceoffs this season after stepping into a much larger role. He has won 149-of-218 (.683) faceoffs and gotten a team-high 97 ground balls. He leads the Generals' face-off specialists in wins and win percentage, while ranking second in the ODAC in winning percentage and third in ground balls. Mikkelson was a key part of W&L's ODAC Tournament championship last weekend when he went 23-for-27 at the X with 19 ground balls and a goal.

Reiter gets his second career All-ODAC citation after making the third team a season ago, with Ferguson and Davis providing big offensive numbers in their rookie seasons. Reiter has caused seven turnovers and scooped up 27 ground balls as a long-stick midfielder this season, to go along with three points on a goal and two assists. Davis and Ferguson rank third and fourth, respectively, on the team in goals (38, 37) and points (60, 38), with Davis also dishing out 22 assists. Davis's 60 points rank seventh in the ODAC this season.
