Baseball Walk It Off Against EMU in ODAC Midweek Match Up

LEXINGTON, Va.  - The Washington and Lee University baseball team earned a 3-2 walk-off win over Eastern Mennonite University on Tuesday night at Cap'n Dick Smith Field as Ryan McGovern put down an excellent bunt to score the game-winning run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Generals (16-9-1, 10-6-1 ODAC) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Andrew Thornton singled to left field with two outs before Camdyn Teague singled to left center to put a pair of runners on. Thornton and Teague both scored in the next at-bat as Jackson Rogish poked a single into center field to give W&L a 2-0 lead.
  • After four scoreless innings, the Royals (10-17, 1-11 ODAC) got on the board in the top of the sixth as Aidan Miller wore a pitch before stealing second and moving to third on a throwing error. Daniel McGinnis drove him in four pitches later with a single into left field to make it a 2-1 game.
  • EMU deadlocked the game at two in the top of the eighth as Miller reached on a fielder's choice with one out. McGinnis drove in his second run of the game as he blasted a double down the left-field line.
  • After the Royals registered back-to-back singles, Brody Pasieka forced a double play to get out of the inning and send W&L into the bottom half of the frame. Ian Weber led off the ninth with a double off the wall in right-center before Oakley Rempel entered as a pinch runner. William Melton moved Rempel to third on a sacrifice bunt, while Jonathan French wore a pitch to put runners on the corners. Ryan McGovern then laid down a perfect bunt on the first pitch of his at-bat, driving in Rempel to secure the 3-2 walk-off win.
  • The Blue and White also secured a 10-6 win over the Royals in a continuation from their game on March 24th. The Generals and Royals played the final two innings prior to their scheduled game today with the Royals scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth.
