No. 5 Men’s Golf in Sixth Place at the Tiger Invitational

PINEHURST, N.C. - The fifth-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team is sitting in sixth place at the Tiger Invitational following 36 holes of action at the North Course at Forest Creek Golf Club.

The Blue and White are in sixth place after two rounds of play, shooting five-over in round one before bouncing back with a two-under par round to sit at three-over par (293-286 – 579). No. 11 Methodist leads the field with a score of nine-under par after posting rounds of two-under and seven-under. No. 1 Huntingdon sits in second place at six-under par after firing a tournament-best nine-under par in round two. Fourth-ranked Carnegie Mellon is in third at two-under par, with No. 2 Emory in fourth at one-over and No. 27 Lynchburg rounding out the top five at two-over par.  


On the day, the Generals played the first nine holes (1-9) at four-under par. In round one, they shot six-over with five birdies before rebounding in round two with a two-under par score that included five birdies and an eagle.
They played the second nine (holes 10-18) at one-under par, shooting one-over in round one and even par in round two while recording 14 birdies, seven in each round.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • No. 1-ranked Jonathan McEwen leads the Generals in a tie for 7th place with a score of three-under par. In round one, McEwen fired a two-under par 70 with four birdies and 12 pars. He followed that performance with four birdies, including three in a five-hole stretch, to shoot a 71 (-1) in round two. He is playing par 5s to two-under par while shooting one-under on par 4s. He ranks sixth in the tournament field with eight birdies.
  • Charlie Krasnewich sits in a tie for 11th place after 36 holes of action, carding a one-under par. During the first round, Krasnewich recorded three birdies, including two from holes six to nine, to shoot a 71 (-1). He followed that up with an even-par 72 with a pair of birdies and 14 pars. He is shooting one-under par on both par 3s and par 5s while ranking sixth in the tournament with 27 pars.
  • 14th-ranked Tim Kaufman sits in a tie for 31st place after shooting two-over par through two rounds. Kaufman shot a two-over par 74 in the first round with three consecutive birdies on holes 15, 16, and 17 along with 11 pars. He bounced back in round two with an even-par 72 with a birdie on the ninth hole before capping off the round with an eagle on the fourth hole, a 540-yard par five. Through 36 holes, he is playing even par on par 5s while being one of 11 golfers to record an eagle.
  • William Hull rounds out the scoring four in a tie for 48th place with a score of five-over par. Hull carded a six-over par 78 in round one with three birdies before bouncing back with a one-under 71 in the second round, recording five birdies including four in a five-hole stretch from holes 6-10. He added 11 pars in round two as well. He is playing par 5s to three-under par while ranking sixth in birdies alongside McEwen with eight.
  • Turner Edwards is in a tie for 92nd place at 14-over par. He shot a 79 (+7) in round one with 12 pars while shooting seven-over in the second round with birdies on holes 6 and 15.
