HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The eighth-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team finished in a tie for sixth place at the 2026 NCAA Division III National Championship while
Jonathan McEwen and
Tim Kaufman finished in the top-three individually.
McEwen finished the season as the National Runner-up, finishing one stroke behind Sebi Aliaga of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps while Kaufman finished in a tie for third place. They became the first duo in program history to finish within the top-five at the National Championship.
The Blue and White came into today's final round in second place at even-par, the second-lowest 72 hole total in program history after shooting six-over in round one, eight-under in round two and two-over in round three. On Friday, W&L carded a team score of seven-over par to finish the tournament in a tie for sixth place alongside No. 12 Kenyon at seven-over par (290-280-290-295 – 1155), marking their fifth-straight Top Ten finish at the National Tournament. They played the front nine to five-over par with nine birdies including three on the first hole with 17 pars. They carded seven birdies and 22 pars on the back nine, shooting two-over par.
No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps hoisted the National Championship trophy after surging in the final round, shooting 15-under par before defeating No. 9 Illinois Wesleyan in a playoff. Following IWU in third is No. 11 Aurora, who shot seven-under in today's round to finish at five-over par. No. 2 Sewanee turned in a fourth place finish at four-over par while No. 5 Methodist rounded out the top-five with a score of six-over par.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
- No. 1-ranked Jonathan McEwen moved up two spots in the final round to secure a runner-up finish at nine-under par, the lowest 72 hole total in program history which bested his own mark which was set in 2024. After shooting even (round one), two-under (round two), and four-under (round three), McEwen capped off the week with a three-under performance to finish one shot behind the leader. He kicked off the day with a birdie on hole one before recording five pars in six holes. He added another birdie on the seventh hole before closing out the front nine with back-to-back pars. McEwen shot two-under on the back nine after carding birdies on holes 10 and 13 while adding seven pars, including seven straight to end the round. McEwen led the National Championship in par-3 scoring, playing those holes at five-under par. He ranked seventh in par-4 scoring at one-over par while ranking 19th in par-5 scoring at five-under par. He ranked fourth in the field with 50 pars and seventh in birdies with 16.
- 11th-ranked Tim Kaufman finished his second National Championship in a tie for third place at seven-under par, the second-best 72 hole total in program history. After shooting two-over in round one, Kaufman carded scores of seven-under (round two) and two-under (round three) to head into the day as one of the leaders. He carded an even-par (72) in today's final round to finish in a tie with Kenyon's Adrian Jordan. Kaufman carded a pair of birdies on the front nine with four pars, shooting one-over. On the back nine, he registered two more birdies in a three-hole stretch before rattling off three pars from holes 13 to 15. He carded another birdie before adding a par to finish one-under on the back. He led the tournament in par-5 scoring at 11-under par and in birdies with 22. He also ranked 17th in par-4 scoring at two-over par.
- Charlie Krasnewich turned in a four-round score of seven-over par to finish in a tie for 68th place. He shot one-under in round one before shooting one-over and even par in rounds two and three. This afternoon, Krasnewich shot seven-over par (79) with a birdie and 12 pars. He carded his lone birdie of the day on the first hole before tacking on four pars. He registered eight pars on the back nine while recording six straight to end the round. He finished the tournament tied for 16th in pars with 48 while playing the par 5s at one-under par.
- Reid Heaton finished in a tie for 184th place with a score of 19-over par at his first National Championship. Heaton shot five-over par in round one before shooting even par in round two and eight-over in round three. In Friday's final round, he shot a six-over (78) with four birdies and six pars. Heaton kicked off the day with two birdies on holes one and two before adding another on the fifth hole, a 445-yard par 4, shooting three-over on the front nine. On the back nine, he carded his fourth birdie of the day on the 13th hole before rattling off four straight pars to shoot three-over.
- William Hull finished the four-day event in a tie for 218th place at 33-over par. Hull shot an 84 in round one, a 79 in round two, and an 81 in round three before firing a four-over (76) in the final round. Hull carded a pair of birdies this afternoon on holes nine and 14 while recording 11 pars. He registered four straight pars and a birdie to end the front nine, shooting two-over. He recorded three pars in four holes following the turn before a birdie on No. 14. Hull ended the day with three pars in four holes to shoot two-over on the back.
