HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - After firing off the second-lowest round at the tournament on Wednesday, the eighth-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team climbed nine spots in the second round of the 2026 NCAA Division III National Championship to move into second place.
The Blue and White shot seven-under par this afternoon, the lowest round in program history at the National Championship, to move to two-under par (290-280—570) through two rounds of action. W&L fired off the second-best round of the tournament with a score of eight-under to move into second place. They played the front nine at five-under par with 11 birdies and 19 pars while shooting three-under on the back nine with eight birdies and 23 pars.
No. 9 Illinois Wesleyan sits in first place at five-under par after moving up six spots this afternoon with a nine-under performance, the lowest round of the tournament. No. 4 Carnegie Mellon and No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps sit behind the Generals in a tie for third at one-under par. CMU shot two-over par this afternoon, while CMS is three-over par with one player left to play the 18th hole after play was suspended due to darkness. No. 5 Methodist rounds out the top five at three-over par after shooting three-over on Wednesday.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
- 11th-ranked Tim Kaufman moved up 58 spots in the second round, sitting in a tie for second place at five-under par. Kaufman bounced back from a two-over par (73) first round as he fired off the second-lowest round in program history, shooting a career-best seven-under par (65). It also ranks as the third-lowest round vs. par and matches the program record for the lowest round at the NCAA Championship, tying Jonathan McEwen, who fired a 65 in the first round of the National Championship in 2024. He kicked off the round with six birdies on the first nine holes, including four straight from holes one to four, to shoot five-under. He carded his seventh birdie of the day on the 10th hole before adding two more on holes 14 and 17, along with five pars. After two rounds of action, Kaufman ranks first in par-5 scoring (-6) and birdies (11) while shooting one-under on par 3s.
- After shooting even par in round one, top-ranked Jonathan McEwen carded a two-under par (70) to move up 12 spots into a tie for 11th place. He carded a bogey on the first hole and bounced back with seven pars and a birdie on hole four to shoot even on the front. On the back nine, McEwen carded a pair of birdies within a four-hole stretch on holes 12 and 15 while adding three pars to cap off the round at two-under par. McEwen leads the field after two rounds in par 3 scoring at four-under par while shooting one-under par on par 5s. He ranks tied for 12th in total birdies with eight.
- Charlie Krasnewich fell four spots in the second round to a tie for 17th place with a score of even par. He followed up a bogey-free 70 (-1) in round one with a one-over par (73) on Wednesday afternoon. Krasnewich carded a pair of birdies on holes three and nine with three pars to shoot two-over on the front. He carded birdies on holes 11 and 17 on the back nine with six pars, including four straight on holes 13 to 16, to shoot one-under. He sits in a tie for sixth in par 4 scoring at one-under par while shooting even par on par 5s. He has carded 26 pars through two rounds, which ranks tied for ninth in the field.
- Reid Heaton had an impressive second round this afternoon, following up a five-over par in the opening round with an even-par (72). Heaton kicked off the day with a birdie on hole one, a 505-yard par 5, before rattling off seven straight pars. He capped off the front nine with a birdie on hole nine, a 353-yard par 4, to shoot two-under on the front. On the back nine, Heaton carded a birdie on hole 14 while adding five pars to shoot two-over par. After two rounds of action, Heaton is playing the par 5s at one-under par.
- William Hull moved up 10 spots in the second round into a tie for 204th place at 20-over par. Hull bounced back from a 13-over par (84) in round one with a seven-over par (79). He carded three straight pars from holes three to five before adding a birdie on hole six, a 382-yard par 4. Hull then rattled off seven consecutive pars from holes nine to 15 before ending the round with three bogeys.
