GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The No. 13 Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team was on the road for the first time in over two weeks and dropped an 11-9 decision at No. 10 Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore James Meyer tallied W&L's (2-3) first two goals of the game for a 2-1 lead through 4:31 of play, with first-year Luke Caldwell getting the assist on the game's opening score.
- The Bullets (2-2) responded with three straight goals in a span of 5:11 to end the first quarter, but the Generals quickly evened things up in the second on goals from Caldwell (14:19) and first-year Tucker Davis (13:31).
- Both teams then traded two goals each, before the Bullets spanned a 4-0 run from the second to fourth quarter. They claimed each of the final three goals of the first half to take a 9-6 lead into the locker room, before a scoreless third quarter preceded a Charlie Johnson goal (14:24) in the fourth to complete the run.
- Caldwell found the back of the net once more on a man-up opportunity with 9:02 left to try and get the Generals to rally. The game then went 4:41 without another goal until Johnson scored again for Gettysburg to push the lead back to four.
- First-year Max Fertels (3:57) and senior Elliot Cohen (1:20) notched the final two goals of the game. Gettysburg proceeded to win the face-off after the Cohen goal, however, and maintained possession the rest of the game to claim the win.
