Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 33 Generals put up strong fight against No. 17 Carnegie Mellon

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 33 Washington and Lee men's tennis team completed the Division III non-conference portion of its season on Sunday in a 7-0 loss against No. 17 Carnegie Mellon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore Sahil Arora and first-year Pearce Lane picked up a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles, but the Tartans (10-0) won at Nos. 1 and 2 for the opening point. They edged the Generals (4-9), 6-4, at both 1 and 2.
  • Despite being swept in singles, three of the matches needed a third-set, 10-point tiebreak to decide the team points. The closest finishes came at No. 4 with Lane falling against Brendan Hendrata (2-6, 6-3, 0-1 [12]) and at No. 6 with junior Sanjheev Rao being edged by Michael Larionov (7-5, 2-6, 0-1 [8]).
  • Junior Heys Parker nearly pulled off an upset of No. 8 Alex Feies at No. 1. Parker claimed the first set, 7-6 (4), but Feies came back to win the second, 6-2, and third-set breaker, 1-0 (6).
  • The Tartans won handily at Nos. 2, 3 and 5, as Diogo Tinoco, Takeshi Koey and Ian Miller post straight-set wins each and dropped a combined 10 games.
