LYNCHBURG, Va. – The No. 33 Washington and Lee men's tennis team improved to 4-0 in ODAC play on Wednesday on the strength of a 5-2 win at Randolph.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Generals (5-9, 4-0 ODAC) picked up the doubles point behind wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Sophomore Sahil Arora and first-year Pearce Lane won, 6-1, at No. 3, before junior Sanjheev Rao and first-year Justin Ilie edged out a 6-4 win at No. 2.
- The WildCats' first win of the day came from No. 1 doubles, as Jacob martin and Andreas Mulner defeated junior Heys Parker and first-year Henry Imorde, 6-4.
- Parker got back in the win column in singles, winning by opponent retirement with a 6-3, 2-0 lead.
- Lane (4), Arora (5) and Rao (6) all won in straight sets to complete the W&L wins. Lane won 6-1, 6-3, Arora posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory and Rao was a 6-3, 6-4 victor.
- The WildCats' two team points came from Mulner and Vincenzo Marchese at No. 2 and 3 singles. Mulner topped Imorde 6-3, 6-1 while Marchese claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Generals improved to 17-7 in ODAC singles matches this season and 9-3 in doubles against conference foes.
UP NEXT:
The Generals will be back in action this Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. start at Averett, their first meeting with the Cougars since last season's ODAC championship match.
