No. 36 Men's Tennis claims match at Averett in Top 2 ODAC battle

DANVILLE, Va. – The No. 36 Washington and Lee men's tennis team remained undefeated in ODAC play, while also handing Averett its first conference loss of the season, in a 5-2 win on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cougars (5-5, 5-1 ODAC) grabbed the early lead when Sam Egui and Rafael Jodas won the clinching point with a 7-6 (7) victory at No. 3 doubles. Doubles matches No. 1 and 2 were split by the teams, 6-4, apiece.
  • The Generals (6-9, 5-0 ODAC) rallied in singles play and won the next three team points to grab a 3-1 lead. First-year Henry Imorde won at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1, and senior Heys Parker (1) and junior Sanjheev Rao (6) picked up a 6-4, 6-2 wins each.
  • Averett got back within a point when Lucas Fiandra topped first-year Justin Ilie 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4, but W&L sophomore Sahil Arora clinched the match for the Blue and White at No. 5, 6-4, 6-3, over Roger Pamies Petit.
  • First-year Todd Cannaliato rounded out the 5-2 W&L win with a tough 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory against Florian Bert at No. 3 singles.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The Generals and Cougars met for the first time since Averett's upset win in the 2025 ODAC Championship match in Lexington. W&L's win on Saturday, however, pushes its winning streak in regular season matches against ODAC schools to 82 in a row.
  • Winning five of the six singles matches in the match improved the Generals to 22-8 in ODAC singles matches. Across all matches, they are a combined 20-10 from the No. 5 and 6 slots.
