No. 4 Men’s Golf Moves into Third after 13-Under Performance in Jekyll Island Second Round

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.  - The fourth-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf moved into solo third after firing off a score of 13-under par in the second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.

The Blue and White fired off the lowest round of the day with a score of 13-under par to move up two spots to third place following the second round of action. The performance improved their score to 20-under par (281-275 - 556), just two shots from second and eight shots from the lead. W&L played holes one through nine at six-under par with eight birdies and an eagle from Tim Kaufman. On holes 10-18, the Blue and White carded 14 birdies en route to a score of seven-under par. All four scorers birdied holes 15 (520-yard, Par 5) and 18 (485-yard, Par 5). Jonathan McEwen and Charlie Krasnewich both shot a seven-under 65, marking the first time in program history where two Generals shot seven-under in the same round. 

No. 1 Huntingdon moved to 28-under par to lead the field after shooting 11-under par in round two. No. 6 Sewanee is in second place with a score of 22-under par after shooting five-under in today's round. No. 3 Carnegie Mellon and No. 5 Methodist round out the top-five in a tie for fourth place with a score of 16-under par. The Tartans shot seven-under in the second round while the Monarchs fired off a 12-under par to move up four spots.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • No. 1-ranked Jonathan McEwen leads the Generals after two days of action after moving up 11 spots in the second round to a tie for 4th place at 10-under par. After firing a 69 (-3) yesterday, McEwen followed that up with a seven-under par performance, the lowest round of the day, on Saturday. He carded four birdies on his first nine (holes 10-18) with four pars, including back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12. McEwen tacked on four more birdies on the final nine, with three coming on the last three holes of the round (holes 7, 8, 9).
  • Charlie Krasnewich bounced back from a one-over par (73) in round one with a seven-under performance (65), joining McEwen with the lowest round of the day. He kicked off the day with a birdie on hole 10 before carding three straight birdies on holes 13, 14, and 15. He registered two more birdies on holes 18 and 1 before adding three more in a four-hole stretch to cap off an impressive round and move up 51 spots to a tie for 10th.
  • William Hull remained at three-under par after the second round, falling ten spots to a tie for 25th place. Hull posted a score of 72 (E) in the second round, registering three birdies, including two on consecutive holes (14 and 15), with 12 pars. Following a bogey on hole one, he finished the round strong with eight straight pars.
  • No. 11 Tim Kaufman sits in a tie for 39th place after the second round, falling 14 spots in Saturday's round. After shooting two-under (70) in round one, Kaufman carded a 73 (+1) in the second round this afternoon. He recorded birdies on holes 15 and 18 while registering an eagle, his third of the season, on hole 7 (523-yard, par 5).
  • Turner Edwards rounds out the Generals in 148th place with a score of 22-over par after shooting 12-over par (84) this afternoon with nine pars.
