LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee junior attacker
Hannah Van Son has been named the IWLCA Division III Co-Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Tuesday in addition to being selected as the USA Lacrosse Magazines DIII Player of the Week selection.
Van Son earns her first career national weekly honors from both assoiciations following a standout performance in the now-No. 10 Generals' 13-12 overtime victory over then-No. 5 York (Pa.) on March 14.
Van Son played a pivotal role in the upset win, finishing with a game-high six goals on 11 shots, including 10 shots on goal, while also controlling the draw with eight draw controls. She scored one of the two critical goals in the final minute of regulation then added a draw to her stat line for the game-tying goal to help erase a late deficit. Van Son then added the game-winning goal in overtime to secure the victory.
Her performance accounted for nearly half of Washington and Lee's offensive output in the win and helped the Generals defeat a top-10 opponent on the road. In addition to her scoring, Van Son contributed across the field with strong possession play and defensive effort, adding a caused turnover while helping W&L edge York in draw controls, 14-13.
Van Son shares the Division III honor with Middlebury's Caroline Adams, who led the top-ranked Panthers to a pair of ranked victories during the week.
