LEXINGTON, Va. - First-year
Macky Gartley of the Washington and Lee University men's track and field team is set to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships on March 13-14 in Birmingham, Ala.
Gartley, a Sewickley, Pa. native, earned a berth to the National Championship for the first time after qualifying in the 60m hurdles. He will be the first representative for the Blue and White at the Indoor National Meet since 2022, when Joe O'Connor finished as the National Runner-Up in the pole vault. Gartley is also the first General in program history to qualify in the 60m hurdles.
Gartley is the first General to earn a spot at the National Championship in his rookie season after posting a qualifying time of 8.04s, the eighth-fastest time in the field, at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Indoor Championships. His time helped him reset the program, ODAC, and meet record in the event while securing the individual title. Six student-athletes in the field have run under eight seconds this season, with Luke Schroeder of Wisconsin-La Crosse posting the top time with a mark of 7.67s. Gartley will compete in Heat 1 of the prelims alongside Calder Diakite (Susquehanna), Kory Davis (Wittenberg), Blake Postler (Wis.-Eau Claire), Pryce Ferrin (Bethel (Minn.)), Jason Agyemang (Rowan), and Tyler Botz (Wis.-Eau Claire) at 1:45 p.m. on Friday.
The top-eight times in the prelims will qualify for the finals on Saturday morning at 10:40 a.m.
