SALEM, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's track and field team secured a second place finish at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Indoor Championships behind three individual champions and 27 top-eight finishers. First-year
Macky Gartley highlighted the action on Day 2 as he set a new program, conference and meet record in the 60m hurdles.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
- The Blue and White turned in a second place finish after scoring 120.5 points with three individual champions and 27 top-eight finishes. Lynchburg secured the team title for the fifth-straight season after registering 187.5 points. Bridgewater followed the Generals in third place with 90 while Roanoke (82) and Randolph (50) rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
- Gartley highlighted the action on Sunday as he improved his program record time while setting a new ODAC and Meet record in the 60m hurdles, Gartley clocked in a time of 8.04s in the event to claim his first league title of his young career and the first for W&L since Joe O'Connor in 2020. Gartley also competed in the 200m, finished in fifth place with a personal best time of 22.83s. DJ McDonough also improved his program record time in the 800m as he crossed the finish line in a personal best time of 1:54.21 to secure the first ODAC title in the event since Alexander Caines in 2019. John Hogan joined McDonough in the 800m, clocking in a personal best time of 1:59.67 to finish in eighth place.
- The Generals had four student-athletes score in the shot put, led by O'Keefe McKinney who finished fourth in the event with a season best mark of 13.81m (45'-03.75"). Leo Avigliano finished right behind him in fifth place after recording a season best mark of 13.78m (45'-02.50"). Maddox Noll and Ezekiel Mullins finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth place with marks of 13.58m (44'-06.75") and 13.25m (43'-05.75").
- Fidel Small turned in a fourth place finish in the triple jump, recording a personal best mark of 13.74m (45'-01.00") which ranks No. 2 in program history. Evan Langhammer secured his fourth indoor pole vault title this afternoon after soaring over a season best height of 4.73m (15'-06.25"). Charlie Strobach and Lukas Michael also scored in the event, finishing in sixth and seventh palace. Both Strobach and Michael recorded personal bests with marks of 4.23m (13'-10.50").
- William Fitch was the lone scorer in the mile on Sunday, securing a seventh place finish with a time of 4:25.76. Connor LaCour turned in a fifth place finish in the 400m, crossing the finish line in a time of 50.55s. Mark Freeman turned in a top-eight finish in the 60m dash finals this afternoon, tying the third-fastest time in program history with a time of 7.04s.
- The Generals had five runners earn top-eight finishes in the 3,000m, highlighted by a third place finish from Robert Cooper. Cooper earned All-ODAC honors after crossing the finish line in a season best time of 8:38.04. William Dunaway finished right behind him in fourth place with a time of 8:44.03. Jackson Kodenski, Thomas Franklin and Colin Verrett finished in order in sixth, seventh and eighth. Kodenski posted a personal best time of 8:48.66 with Franklin crossing the finish line in 8:56.15 and Verrett recording a time of 9:00.10.
- John Daniels, Gartley, LaCour and McDonough teamed up in the 4x400m relay to cap off the championship weekend. The quartet earned All-ODAC honors after finishing in second place with a time of 3:21.75.
