2026 W&L Men's Golf Spring Preview

LEXINGTON, Va. - The 8th-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team returns to action on Monday, March 2nd to kick off the spring portion of their 2025-26 season.

The Blue and White completed the fall with a 285.2 scoring average over nine rounds played while posting a 35-18-1 record. They opened up the fall schedule with a 6th place finish at the Gate City Invite in Greensboro before finishing in. T-9th place at the NCAA Preview at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The concluded the fall sale with a 6th place finish at the Tartan Invitational at Laurel Valley Golf Club.

W&L was ranked 8th in both the Scoreboard by Clipped and Bushnell/Golfweek Division III polls.

INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS

The Generals have a pair of golfers inside the Top 20 in the Clipped individual rankings with Jonathan McEwen remaining as the No. 1 ranked golfer in Division III. McEwen T-1st at the Gate Cite Invite in their season opener with a score of 6-under par before finishing 4th at the NCAA Preview (-6) and the Tartan Invitational (+4). In nine rounds this season, he has a scoring average of 68.3 with a 288-6-6 record over opponents. He leads the team with six eagles while registering 30 birdies and 97 pars.

Tim Kaufman is ranked 14th in the individual ranks after posting a 70.1 scoring average during the fall season with a record of 251-41-8 against opponents. He finished in 20th place with a score of 3-over par at the Gate City Invite before firing off 9th place finish at the NCAA Preview with a score of 2-under par. He rounded out the fall slate with a 15th place finish at the Tartan Invitational with a score of 7-over par.

2026 SPRING SCHEDULE OVERVIEW

The Generals spring schedule features four tournaments before they had to Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst, Va. for the 2026 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships on April 19-21.

W&L will head to Georgia for the Savannah Invitational at The Club at Savannah Harbor on March 2-3 which features seven of the top ten Division III teams. Individual members of the team will also compete at the Port City Invite on Monday and Tuesday at the Savannah Country Club.

The next week, the Blue and White will head down to Pinehurst, N.C. for the Tiger Invitational on March 9-10 to play the North Course at the Forest Creek Golf Club. They will end March with a trip back to Georgia for the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on the 20-22 at the Jekyll Island Golf Club.

W&L will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Pratville, Ala. for the Capital City Classic at the RTJ Golf Trail at Capitol Hill on April 6-7.

The ODAC Tournament spans three days in Amherst, Va. with the champion earning the leagues' automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The National Championships will take place at the Mission Resort + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. on May 12-15.

FALL REVIEW

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The second-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team turned in a sixth place finish, shooting eight-over par (872) at the Gate City Invite on Tuesday while Junior Jonathan McEwen finished in a tie for first place with a score of six-under par (208) at Forest Oak Country Club.

The Generals slipped three spots in the final round, carding a 299 (+11) to finish sixth overall. Fifth-ranked Sewanee held on for the team title at three-under par (861), closing with a 292 (+4).

No. 9 Carnegie Mellon finished runner-up at two-under par, while No. 7 Huntingdon placed third at one-under. Sixth-ranked Oglethorpe secured fourth at two-over par, and No. 3 Emory rounded out the top five at seven-over.

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The third-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team finished in a T-9th place out of 24 teams while junior Jonathan McEwen and sophomore Tim Kaufman finished in the top-ten at the NCAA Preview at the Mission Inn Resort.

The Blue and White moved up one spot to finish in a tie for ninth place out of 24 teams after posting a two-under-par 286 in the final round, wrapping up the tournament at 14-over (292–296–286—874). Emory claimed the team title with a score of two-over (282–289–291—862), edging out Methodist by one stroke.

The Generals played the front nine at three-under-par, recording seven birdies and an eagle, and shot one-over-par on the back nine with nine birdies during the final round of action. Holes 9 and 10 proved especially favorable for the team, as they played both to a combined six-under-par, including three birdies on the 540-yard, par-5 10th hole.

LIGONIER, Pa. - The eighth-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team turned in their third top-ten finish of the fall as they finished sixth at the Tartan Invitational.

The Blue and White finished sixth out of 16 teams with a score of 40-over par (298-303-303 – 904) across three rounds of action at the Laurel Valley Golf Club. W&L shot a combined 15-over par (303) in the final round, playing the front nine to a score of five-over par with four birdies and an eagle from Alex Holzapfel, while shooting ten-over on the back nine with six birdies and a Jonathan McEwen eagle.

McEwen paced the Generals with his third top-ten finish of the season, climbing 26 spots in the final round to finish in fourth place out of 87 golfers. Tim Kaufman finished in a tie for 15th with a score of seven-over par, while Holzapfel wrapped up his first collegiate tournament in a tie for 25th place with a score of ten-over par. Turner Edwards finished in a tie for 64th place with a score of 19-over par, while Charlie Krasnewich finished in 84th place with a score of 28-over par.

No. 6 Huntingdon secured the team title with a score of 22-over par, firing a seven-over in the final round, while No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan and No. 23 Rochester tied for second with a score of 25-over par. No. 4 Carnegie Mellon was one shot behind the Titans and Yellowjackets with a score of 26-over par, while No. 1 Emory rounded out the top five with a score of 35-over par.
