Kaufman, McEwen Finish in Top Ten, Lead No. 3 Generals at NCAA Preview

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The third-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team finished in a T-9th place out of 24 teams while junior Jonathan McEwen and sophomore Tim Kaufman finished in the top-ten at the NCAA Preview at the Mission Inn Resort.

The Blue and White moved up one spot to finish in a tie for ninth place out of 24 teams after posting a two-under-par 286 in the final round, wrapping up the tournament at 14-over (292–296–286—874). Emory claimed the team title with a score of two-over (282–289–291—862), edging out Methodist by one stroke.


The Generals played the front nine at three-under-par, recording seven birdies and an eagle, and shot one-over-par on the back nine with nine birdies during the final round of action. Holes 9 and 10 proved especially favorable for the team, as they played both to a combined six-under-par, including three birdies on the 540-yard, par-5 10th hole.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Jonathan McEwen led the way for the Generals with a tie for fourth place out of 120 golfers, finishing the tournament at six-under par (69–72–68—209). In the final round, McEwen carded six birdies en route to a four-under 68, adding 11 pars. Four of his birdies came in a five-hole stretch on holes 12, 13, 14, and 16. He tied for third in both eagles (1) and birdies (14), ranked T-5th in par-5 scoring at two-under, T-12th in par-3 scoring (even par), T-14th in par-4 scoring at seven-under (4.64 avg.), and T-29th in total pars with 34.
  • Sophomore Tim Kaufman climbed six spots on the final day to tie for ninth place at two-under par (73–71–69—213) after shooting a three-under 69 in the final round. Kaufman opened with back-to-back birdies, then went four-under in a three-hole stretch with two birdies and an eagle. He finished T-2nd in par-5 scoring at seven-under (4.36 avg.), and also tied for third in both eagles (1) and birdies (14). Kaufman ranked T-12th in par-3 scoring, playing those holes at even par.
  • Sophomore Charlie Krasnewich turned in a tie for 67th place with a score of 11-over par (74–78–74—226). He closed the tournament with a two-over 74, carding three birdies and ten pars. Krasnewich tied for 29th in par-5 scoring, playing those holes at two-under par.
  • First-year William Hull moved up five spots on the final day, finishing tied for 86th at 14-over par (78–76–75—229). Hull shot a three-over 75 in the final round, highlighted by back-to-back birdies on holes 9 and 10, along with 11 pars.
  • Senior Turner Edwards rounded out the Generals' lineup with a tie for 97th place (76–77–78—231). He shot a six-over 78 in the final round, tallying two birdies and eight pars.
