CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Eric Jacobsen,
John Cimballa,
Sims DeLong and
Brody Pasieka of the Washington and Lee University baseball team tossed a combined no-hitter in their 9-0 win over Johnson & Wales (N.C) on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Eric Jacobsen made his first career start on the mound for W&L (3-3) and made quick work of the inning as he struck out two batters before Nick Caywood caught Marco Fernandez stealing following a walk. This helped W&L take an early lead as N. Caywood secured the first hit of the game as he tripled to left-center field before scoring two batters later on a wild pitch. Jackson Rogish, Ian Weber, and Landen Rucker all drew walks to load the bases before Rogish scored on a passed ball to give the Generals a 2-0 lead in the second.
- In the top of the 5th, the Generals plated three more runs as Rucker and Oakley Rempel both drew walks to start the inning. Alex Caywood then blasted a three-run home run, the first of his career, to expand their lead to five.
- Weber and Samuel Chase recorded back-to-back singles in the top of the 6th before a walk from Rucker loaded the bases. Rempel drove in Weber on another walk before Chase came around to score on a ground out, giving the Blue and White a 7-0 lead.
- With two outs in the top of the 8th, Rucker singled to left-center field before Rempel roped a triple into the right-center gap to put W&L up 8-0. N. Caywood led off the 9th with a walk before Rogish singled. Chase stepped up to the plate and drove in the final run of the game as he singled to center, extending the lead to nine.
- After back-to-back walks, the Generals got the lead runner at third on a fielder's choice before Brody Pasieka struck out the final two batters to secure the first no-hitter since 2005.

The victory also marked the first shutout of the season while producing the first no-hitter since 2005, when Clayton Edwards tossed a no-no against Lincoln.
