No. 33 Generals bested by No. 13 Kenyon

DANVILLE, Ky. – The 33rd-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team was bested on Sunday by a final score of 5-2 against No. 13 Kenyon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Despite the Owls (7-0) claiming the doubles point, first-years Todd Cannaliato and Pearce Lane highlighted the opening matches for the Generals (3-2) by picking up a 6-4 win at No. 3.
  • Kenyon got the opening point of the match behind a 7-5 win at No. 1 and a 6-2 victory at No. 2.
  • Lane continued his strong day in singles with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win at No. 5, while junior Sanjheev Rao added a win himself at No. 6. Rao dropped his first set, 4-6, against Eliezer Gonzalez, before battling back 6-3 in the second and 1-0 (5) in third set tiebreak.
  • The Generals faced stiff competition in singles, with two of the four Kenyon players ranked nationally and three ranked in the Central Region. Junior Heys Parker faced No. 21 Alejandro Gonzalez at No. 1 (0-6, 3-6), Cannaliato went up against No. 39 Maximo Llamas Castellanos at No. 2 (1-6, 1-6), and first-year Justin Ilie played regional No. 16 Paulo Pocasangre at No. 3 (3-6, 3-6).
  • Sophomore Sahil Arora rounded out the singles lineup for the Blue and White, falling 4-6, 0-6 against Juozas Cioladis at No. 4.

The Generals now head to Atlanta to take on No. 6 Emory University on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
