ATLANTA – Facing their toughest test so far in the early spring season, the No. 33 Washington and Lee men's tennis team was defeated, 5-2, at No. 6 Emory on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Sanjheev Rao and sophomore Ryan Good highlighted doubles play for the Generals (3-3) with a 6-3 win over Dean Kamenev and Matthew Johnstone at No. 2.
- The Eagles (4-2) picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 3, however, to claim the doubles point. Ruilin Feng and Ajay Kartik downed junior Heys Parker and first-year Justin Ilie at No. 1, before Daniel Kim and Stefan Karatosic edged first-years Todd Cannaliato and Pearce Lane at No. 3.
- Rao won his fourth straight singles match overall with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 final over Joshua Lai at No. 6. The win improved Rao to 4-0 at No. 6 this season and 6-2 across all singles matches.
- Lane collected the Generals' other team point on the day with a 7-6 (3), 0-6, 1-0 (3) win at No. 5 against Alex Anghel. Lane moved to 3-1 at No. 5 this season and 5-3 overall with the win.
- The Eagles won all four matches at positions 1-4 in straight sets. Parker (1), Cannaliato (2), Ilie (3) and sophomore Sahil Arora (4) rounded out the singles lineup for the Generals.
