Men's Tennis falls at James Madison in spring opener

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The No. 33 Washington and Lee men's tennis team opened the 2026 spring schedule at Division I James Madison on Saturday and battled valiantly despite a 6-1 loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Dukes (3-2) swept doubles play to claim the opening point. Junior Heys Parker and first-year Justin Ilie won three games at No. 1 to lead the W&L (2-1) efforts.
  • Junior Sanjheev Rao and first-year Pearce Lane won two games at No. 2, while sophomore Sahil Arora and first-year Harrison Silver claimed one game at No. 3.
  • Rao highlighted singles play for the Blue and White with a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (8) victory at No. 6. Parker and Lane also played to three sets at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively. Parker fought back to win his second set in a tiebreak, while Lane held a one-set lead at No. 5 over Harrison Lee before dropping the next two.
  • First-year Todd Cannaliato (2), Ilie (3) and Arora (4) rounded out the singles lineup for the Generals, with the Dukes picking up straight-set wins at those spots.
UP NEXT:
The Generals will be back in action next Saturday, February 21, when they travel to Danville, Ky., to battle the Centre College Colonels at 11:00 a.m.
