Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 4 Generals tie with Covenant in home opener

LEXINGTON, Va. – In their 2025 home opener on Friday evening, the No. 4 Washington and Lee men's soccer team took a one-goal lead in the second half, but ultimately tied Covenant College, 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Generals (0-1-2) dented the scoreboard in the 62nd minute on a goal from first-year Sami Seife. Junior Jack Travis found Seife alone on the left side in the box, before Seife took one touch forward and slotted a shot just inside the right post.
  • That score held until the 82nd minute when Covenant's (2-1-1) Jackson Bostrom looped a shot from distance over the head of W&L keeper Will Joseph. Bostrom was assisted by Henry Parker and Sam Conrad on the play.
  • The game saw three total shots the rest of the way, two from Covenant and one from W&L. None of the three shots were on goal. Junior Spencer Furman was responsible for the final W&L shot, a header inside the box that went just wide to the left of frame.
  • Neither team managed to find the back of the net in the first half, despite the Generals putting five of their eight shots on goal. Covenant keeper Eli Honeycutt made all five saves to keep the game scoreless.
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Seife played 53 minutes as a reserve on Friday evening, scoring his first collegiate goal on his only shot of the game. Travis collected the assist on the play and took two shots.
  • Bostrom, the Covenant scorer, and Jonathan Welsh took a team-high three shots each and combined for three attempts on goal.
  • Parker and Henry both picked up assists on the Bostrom goal. Conrad also took one shot in the game.
  • Honeycutt paced the two keepers in the game as he made nine saves. Joseph stopped three shots across all 90 minutes.
TEAM STATS:
  • W&L finished the night with a 22-11 shot advantage, including a 14-6 margin in the second half. They also put 10 shots on goal compared to four from the Scots.
  • Corner kicks also favored the Blue and White, 8-2. Both halves had the Generals hold a 4-1 count.
