No. 3 Men’s Golf Sits in 10th at NCAA Preview

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The third-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team sits in a tie for 10th place following the first round of the NCAA Preview at the Mission Inn Resort.  

The Blue and White sit in 10th place out of 24 teams after the opening round at the Las Colinas Course, posting an eight-over-par 292. They trail first-place Kenyon College by 14 strokes after the Owls carded a six-under 278.


After shooting 15-over on the front nine, the Generals bounced back with 13 birdies on the back nine to post a one-under score. Only two teams finished under par on day one — Kenyon (–6) and Emory (–2) — while Oglethorpe and Huntingdon matched even par.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Jonathan McEwen sits in ninth place after carding a two-under 69. His round included four birdies and an eagle on the 493-yard par-5 fifth hole. McEwen leads the tournament in eagles (1) and ranks second in par-5 scoring with a 4.00 average (–3). He also stands tied for 12th in total birdies (4) and tied for 17th in par-4 scoring with a 4.00 average (E).
  • Sophomore Tim Kaufman posted a two-over 73 to sit in a tie for 37th. He recorded five birdies and seven pars, closing his round with three consecutive birdies. Kaufman ranks fifth in the field in birdies (5) and tied for 12th in par-3 scoring with a 3.00 average (E).
  • Sophomore Charlie Krasnewich carded a three-over 74 to tie for 49th, highlighted by 10 pars and three birdies. He ranks tied for 17th in par-4 scoring with an even-par 4.00 average.
  • Senior Turner Edwards posted a five-over 76, recording three birdies and eight pars. All three birdies came during a four-hole stretch on Nos. 10, 12, and 13.
  • First-year William Hull rounded out the Generals with a seven-over 78, tying for 89th place. He capped his round with a birdie on the 18th hole.
