YORK, Pa. – All three Zimmerman sisters made their way onto the scoresheet on Friday to propel the No. 13 Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a season-opening 3-0 win at York (Pa.).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior Sarah Zimmerman opened the scoring with a right-footed blast from outside the box and just under the cross bar in the third minute of action. Her shot came after sophomore Elizabeth Zimmerman made a long run up the field before finding her sister in the middle.
- The W&L (1-0) lead doubled to 2-0 in the 27th minute when sophomore Megan Zimmerman scored from close range following a centering feed from senior Helen Otteni. The pass came right to Zimmerman's foot, as she beat the keeper to the left post.
- Otteni tallied the Generals' final goal of the day 91 seconds later. Elizabeth Zimmerman got her second assist of the game with a centering cross that Otteni volleyed inside the left post for the 3-0 lead.
- A scoreless second half saw both teams take four shots each. The Spartans (0-1) put one of their four shots on goal, but senior Abby Groff came up with the save.
