Tarbet, Bredehoeft Earn Major Awards, Women’s Swimming Tallies Eight VaSID All-State Citations

LEXINGTON, Va. - Senior Bella Tarbet and First-year Celia Bredehoeft of the Washington and Lee University women's swimming garnered major awards while the team tallied eight All-State citations, the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced on Wednesday.

Bella Tarbet was named the VaSID Swimmer of the Year after an outstanding season in the pool. A key member of the 200 freestyle relay team that qualified for the NCAA Championships, Tarbet earned First Team All-ODAC honors after capturing three individual conference titles in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and 200 butterfly. Named the ODAC Swimmer of the Meet, she posted an NCAA B-cut time of 2:04.95 in the 200 fly, alongside season-best marks of 23.58 seconds in the 50 free and 56.06 seconds in the 100 fly. In addition to her major award, she was also selected to the VaSID First Team All-State in both the butterfly and 200 freestyle relay.


Bredehoeft earned VaSID Rookie of the Year honors, her second Rookie recognition this season, after an impressive debut at the ODAC Championships. She claimed First Team All-ODAC honors with titles in both the 500 freestyle (5:06.47) and 1,650 freestyle (17:29.06), securing a spot on the VaSID First Team All-State in the freestyle distance category.


The 200 freestyle relay team of Tarbet, Amelia Maloof, Vivian Pickeral, and Myla Rice also earned First Team All-State honors after an exceptional performance at the ODAC Championships. The quartet clocked an NCAA B-cut time of 1:34.65 to win the conference title and went on to place 25th at the NCAA Championships.


Maria Jellig rounded out the honors with a pair of First Team All-State citations in the backstroke and individual medley. At the ODAC Championships, she captured the 200 backstroke title with a time of 2:03.83, and swept the 200 IM (2:06.88) and 400 IM (4:30.91) titles as well.
