Women’s Track and Field Earns 12 All-Region Citations

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Following a very successful outdoor season, the Washington and Lee University women's track and field team reeled in 12 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region Citations.

Olivia Warr and Amanda Romano led the Generals with two All-Region citations each in their respective events. Warr earned honors in both the 1,500m and 5,000m for her outstanding performances this season. She qualified for the national championships in Ohio in the 1,500m after recording the third-fastest time in the South Region (4:28.85) at the Widener Final Qualifier. She also ranked third in the 5,000m with a time of 17:16.43 and claimed ODAC titles in both events.


Romano secured All-Region recognition in the 100m and 400m hurdles. She posted the third-fastest time in the South Region in the 100m hurdles (14.82s), tying the program record, and finished second at the ODAC Championships. In the 400m hurdles, she ranked fifth in the region with a time of 1:01.94 at the Hopkins/Loyola Invite.


Sophia Breschi joined Warr as an All-Region selection in the 5,000m after recording a personal-best time of 17:28.24 at the W&L Carnival, the team's first outdoor meet of the season. Emma Mitchell earned All-Region honors in the 10,000m with the third-fastest time in the South Region this season. Her time of 37:33.98, posted at the ODAC Championships in April, ranks fifth in program history.


Reese Brown and Brianna Breyault both received All-Region honors in the 3,000m steeplechase. Brown posted a time of 11:24.50—fourth-fastest in program history—at the ODAC Championships to win the conference title and secure All-Region recognition. Breyault, finishing just behind, earned All-Region honors with a time of 11:24.52, the fifth-fastest in both the region and program history.


The Generals also had a pair of All-Region pole vaulters. Ashley D'Ambrosia led the South Region with a mark of 3.81m (12'-06.00"), achieved at the Hopkins/Loyola Invite. Layla Keadle ranked third in the region with a height of 3.52m (11'-06.50"), recorded at the ODAC Championships.


Rounding out the Generals' All-Region honorees were Camille Gillum and Bailey Hedgemon, who were recognized in the high jump and hammer throw, respectively. Gillum ranked second in the South Region in the high jump with a program-record height of 1.68m (5'-06.00"), which earned her a berth at the National Championships and Second Team All-American honors. Hedgemon also ranked second in the region in the hammer throw, earning All-Region status with a toss of 49.13m (161'-02.00") at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier in May.
