No. 42 Women's Tennis bested by No. 2 Emory to close season

LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 42 Washington and Lee women's tennis team saw its 2024-25 season come to an end on Sunday in a 4-0 loss against second-ranked Emory in the NCAA Championship Round of 16.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Despite dropping the doubles point, the Generals (18-6) kept it close against the Eagles (17-5) by winning a total of 12 games. At one point during doubles, the No. 3 match was tied at three games all, while No. 1 and No. 2 were both tied, 4-4. However, Emory pulled away for a 6-4 win at No. 2 before a 6-3 victory at No. 3.
 
In singles, the Eagles got their next point when Izzy Antanavicius topped first-year Allie Murrell 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2, followed by a 6-1, 6-4 win for Dakota Fordham over junior Riho Iijima at No. 6. The final team point came in a Top 20 matchup at No. 1 between 17th-ranked Lauren Long of W&L and top-ranked Emily Kantrovitz of Emory. A rematch of a regular season matchup that favored Long, Kantrovitz was the victor this time by a 6-4, 7-5 final.
 
UP NEXT:
This concludes team play for the Washington and Lee women's tennis team for the 2024-25 season. Long qualified for her third consecutive NCAA Division III Singles Championship, and will play a first round match on Saturday, May 24, at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Claremont, Calif. The bracket for the singles championship, complete with matchups and times, will be revealed on May 23.
