LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 32 Washington and Lee women's tennis team earned a pair of ODAC wins on Monday, defeating Roanoke, 7-0, at home and Hollins, 6-1, on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED – ROANOKE (W, 7-0):
The Generals (11-4, 7-0 ODAC) cruised against the Maroons (5-14, 3-7 ODAC) in Lexington, dropping just three games combined across singles and doubles play. First-years
Sarah Donnelly and
Allie Murrell posted the lone shutout in doubles playing at the top spot. Junior
Riho Iijima and first-year
Mary Kate Kahl covered No. 2 doubles (6-1), and junior
Jordan Kach and first-year
Jackie Daynovsky rounded out the doubles lineup at No. 3 (6-1).
All six of those players made up the W&L singles lineup, and Murrell (1), Donnelly (2), Iijima (3), Daynovsky (5) and Kach (6) all swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Kahl dropped one game in her second set against Raygan Wade for a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4.
HOW IT HAPPENED – HOLLINS (W, 6-1):
W&L sent five players down I-81 for a match against Hollins that was rescheduled from the fall slate, thus forfeiting No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Juniors
Annie Jennings and
Isabella Custard notched a 6-1 win at No. 1 after senior
Meagan Donovan and first-year
Greer Webb picked up the first win of the day at No. 2, 6-0.
The Generals' (12-4, 8-0 ODAC) doubles players filled singles slots 2-5, while junior
Lauren Long slid in at No. 1 to complete the singles lineup. Jennings (2), Custard (3), Webb (4) and Donovan (5) were all 6-0, 6-0 victors in their matches, with Long topping Peja Cruise 6-0, 6-1 to close things out.
