No. 10 Men's Lacrosse notches second shut out of the season at Averett

DANVILLE, Va. – The No. 10 Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team posted its second shutout in its last four games in a 28-0 win at Averett on Friday in its return to action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Generals (12-3, 8-0 ODAC) scored eight goals in the first and third quarters, and six goals in the second and fourth quarters to log its second shutout of at least 28 goals this month. Senior Hillis Burns led the first-quarter scoring with three tallies, with five other Generals scoring one goal each. The second quarter featured a balanced attack, as well, with all six goals coming from six different players.

First-year Jack Dalton (2) was the lone W&L player with multiple goals in the eight-goal third quarter, with juniors Byron Newman and Jack Booth both contributing two points in the period on a goal and an assist. First-year Avery Richardson then highlighted the fourth quarter with three goals, while senior Gavin McClernan added three points of his own on a goal and two helpers.

TOP PERFORMERS:
Booth and Irmscher notched a team-high six points apiece, with Irmscher at a goal and five assists and Booth at two goals and four assists. Dalton, Newman and senior Riley Albregts all scored three times and had an assist, while junior James Haley, McClernan and Burns all totaled three points.

First-year Jax Lou was the standout for the Generals on face-offs, as he won 24-of-25 with nine ground balls. Sophomore Tyler Spano got in the game for six face-offs, winning all six, while Booth added a face-off win on his only attempt with a ground ball. Twelve different Generals all caused one turnover, with junior Jay Seevers and first-year Charlie Hodulik leading that bunch with three ground balls.

All five W&L goalies saw time in goal on Friday, but, with the W&L defensive unit limiting the Cougars to just three shots on goal, only junior Ryan Boyd made saves, stopping all three.

Averett's Ty Pearson led with three ground balls plus two each for Robbie Isenhour and Connor Boyd. Isenhour played 45 minutes in goal and made 19 saves.
