Women’s Track and Field Rewrites Record Books at Joe LaRocco Invite

SALEM, Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's track and field team rewrote the record books at the Joe LaRocco Invite on Saturday afternoon, making ten updates to the top ten list while resetting two program records.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Camille Gillum broke her own program record in the high jump, clearing a personal-best height of 1.68m (5'-06.00") to claim first place. Her mark currently ranks 14th in Division III this season. Simone Kasischke also etched her name into the program's high jump record book, clearing a personal-best height of 1.53m (5'-00.25"), which ranks tenth in school history.
  • Six Generals posted personal bests in the mile run, with Cassie Carr leading the group with a first-place finish and the third-best time in program history. Carr clocked 5:03.51, a time that ranks 44th in Division III this season. Sophia Breschi and Emma Mitchell followed in second and third place, recording personal-best times of 5:07.04 and 5:08.45, respectively. Breschi's time ranks seventh all-time at W&L, while Mitchell's ranks eighth.
  • Jesma Evans secured a first-place finish in the 400m, running a personal-best time of 59.12 seconds, the third-fastest mark in program history.
  • Bailey Hedgemon improved her own program record in the weight throw, recording a personal-best mark of 16.48m (54'-01.00"), which ranks 24th in Division III this season.
  • Ashley D'Ambrosia claimed a top finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.57m (11'-08.50"), and also posted the sixth-fastest time in program history in the 60m dash prelims, clocking 8.08 seconds. Layla Keadle placed third in the pole vault with a height of 3.42m (11'-02.50"), while Abby Cholewa (3.12m; 10'-02.75") and Gabby Pullen (2.97m; 9'-09.00") secured fifth and seventh place, respectively.
  • The 4x400m relay team of Ana Hodneland, Lucie Graziano, Amanda Romano, and Jesma Evans clocked the second-fastest time in program history, crossing the finish line in 4:05.03.
  • Reese Brown led the Generals in the 3,000m with a second-place finish, recording a time of 10:43.31. Lydia Harvey followed in fourth place with a time of 10:48.38, while Kristen Clodgo posted a season-best 10:53.67.
  • Amanda Romano improved her No. 2 all-time mark in the 60m hurdles during the prelims, qualifying for the finals with a time of 9.10 seconds. She later placed third in the finals with a time of 9.23 seconds. Lilly Versen finished fifth in the 200m, clocking a time of 26.79 seconds.
  • Lucie Graziano and Brenna Luczak ran personal bests in the 800m, finishing back-to-back in fifth and sixth place with times of 2:24.65 and 2:25.10, respectively. Adia Vera also ran a personal best, placing seventh with a time of 2:25.14.
  • Mackenzie Morante posted a season-best mark in the triple jump, leaping 10.53m (34'-06.75") to finish fifth. In the long jump, Madelyn Venable recorded a season-best mark of 5.06m (16'-07.25"), while Bella Devraj posted a mark of 5.05m (16'-07.00").
  • Emily Jackson and Bailey Hedgemon rounded out the top finishers in the shot put, placing sixth and seventh, respectively. Jackson recorded a mark of 11.30m (37'-01.00"), and Hedgemon posted 11.25m (36'-11.00").
  • Additionally, Mary Gorsky, Julie Anne Bush, and Olivia Lovan each achieved personal bests in the mile run.

  • The 4x400m relay team of Ana Hodneland, Lucie Graziano, Amanda Romano, and Jesma Evans clocked the second-fastest time in program history, crossing the finish line in 4:05.03. Their time surpasses the 2015 squad's mark of 4:05.22.
  • Ashley D'Ambrosia posted the sixth-fastest time in program history in the 60m dash prelims, clocking 8.08 seconds to surpass Nikki Doherty's 2020 time of 8.14.
  • Jesma Evans recorded the third-fastest 400m time in program history on Saturday, finishing in 59.12 seconds. Her time bested Stacy Doornbos' 2009 mark of 59.36.
  • Simone Kasischke etched her name into the program's high jump record book, clearing a personal-best height of 1.53m (5'-00.25"), which ranks tenth in school history. Her mark surpassed Sarah Gilbert's height of 5'-00.00", set in 1993.
  • Cassie Carr moved to No. 3 on the program's all-time mile list after clocking a time of 5:03.51, surpassing Maggie Seybold's time of 5:05.09. Sophia Breschi and Emma Mitchell also climbed the all-time mile rankings, moving into seventh and eighth place, respectively. Breschi recorded a time of 5:07.04, while Mitchell finished in 5:08.45, both surpassing Parker Hawk's time of 5:10.51.
  • Amanda Romano improved her No. 2 all-time mark in the 60m hurdles during the prelims, qualifying for the finals with a time of 9.10. She went on to place third in the finals.
