LEXINGTON, Va. – The 10th-ranked Washington and Lee women's soccer team had 16 different players record a point in a 12-0 win over Sweet Briar on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Generals (9-2-1, 5-0-0 ODAC) were off and running with three goals inside the first five minutes, one each from first-year Mary Parrish Green, sophomore Elizabeth Zimmerman and senior Sarah Zimmerman.
- Junior Emily Burke then made it 4-0 in the ninth minute and 6-0 in the 16th minute after another goal from Green at the 11:51 mark.
- Five different players combined for the final six goals of the game, with sophomore Sydney Irwin highlighting the bunch with two goals (28', 59'). Sophomore Maren Brown (25') and first-year Annelies Brenenborg (34') rounded out the first-half scorers for a 9-0 lead.
- Junior Gracie Jorgensen (50') and sophomore Millie Rush (68') joined Irwin as second-half scorers, with Rush also assisting on the Irwin goal in the 59th minute. In total, 10 of W&L's 12 goals were assisted.
TOP PERFORMERS:
- Burke (2g), Green (2g), Irwin (2g), S. Zimmerman (1g, 1a), Rush (1g, 1a) and junior Stephanie Zawtocki (2a) all had a hand in two goals on the night.
- Jorgensen, first-years Julia Espinosa (1a), Maura Mellides (1a) and Brenenborg (1a), sophomores Avery Hannah (1a) and Elizabeth Perri (1a) each got on the scoresheet for the first time this season.
- E. Zimmerman (1g), senior Helen Otteni (1a), Brown (1g) and first-year McKenna Reh (1a) rounded out the players with at least one point on the night.
- The Generals played all four of their goalkeepers in the game. Sophomore Kate McEnroe started and played 11:51 without facing a shot. Senior Abby Groff (33:09), first-year Chrysi Gabriel (21:45) and junior Calla Andrews (23:15) followed successively and each made one save to close out the shutout.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Generals have now won 17 consecutive regular season ODAC games and are undefeated in 26 straight (22-0-4) at home.
TEAM STATS:
- W&L was highly efficient on the offensive end, scoring 12 goals on 20 shot attempts and 15 total attempts on target.
- Four corner kicks were taken in the game, all by W&L and all in the second half.
