LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee University Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Gene McCabe has announced the addition of Ian Davies to the coaching staff. Davies will begin his appointment on Monday, October 20, and he will serve as the defensive assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

"We are thrilled to welcome Ian Davies as our new defensive assistant coach for the men's lacrosse team," McCabe commented. "A former elite-level goalie in the ODAC, Ian brings tremendous passion for coaching, positive energy, and a steadfast commitment to excellence. He is a great fit for our program, and I know he will immediately contribute to our team culture in meaningful ways."

Davies joins the Generals' coaching staff after having served over 10 years in various locations as a defensive and goalie coach for club teams, as well as Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, for the 2025 season. His club coaching experience includes Austin High School in Austin, Texas, the Mesa Fresh in Philadelphia and Team Wasatch in Salt Lake City. In each position, Davies has excelled in coaching defensive systems and goalie technique, while helping the Southwestern Pirates to the semifinals of the 2025 Southern Athletic Association tournament.

"I am extremely excited to join the Washington and Lee lacrosse staff and family," stated Davies. "I look forward to working with our defense and helping continue the proud winning tradition of Generals lacrosse. I'd like to thank Coach McCabe for this opportunity, and Coaches Garrett, Hirsh, and O'Connell for their support throughout the process."

No stranger to ODAC men's lacrosse, Davies was a four-year letterwinner on the Roanoke College men's lacrosse team and compiled a 38-20 record and a 9.75 goals-against average in over 3,000 minutes between the pipes. Davies was named a First Team All-American in 2018, as well as the Division III National Goalie of the Year by the USILA. He picked up an additional All-America citation in 2019 and finished his career ranked second in program history for saves (678), wins and save percentage (.567).

Davies received his degree from Roanoke College in 2019 in business administration.
