McEwen, Kaufman Among Nation's Best, Men’s Golf Ranked Eighth

LEXINGTON, Va. - Following a trio of Top Ten finishes in the fall, the Washington and Lee University men's golf team was ranked eighth in the first installment of the Division III Scoreboard by Clippd Rankings while Junior Jonathan McEwen and Sophomore Tim Kaufman were ranked within the Top 20, the organization announced on Wednesday evening.

W&L played in three tournaments during the fall slate, posting a 35-18-1 record while establishing a 284.8 scoring average over nine rounds of action. They opened the season with a 6th-place finish at the Gate City Invitational, followed by a T-9th place finish at the NCAA Preview, and capped off the fall slate with another sixth-place finish on Tuesday at the Tartan Invitational. As a team, the Generals have recorded eight eagles, 111 birdies, and 468 pars.


McEwen remained the No. 1-ranked golfer in Division III, holding the rank since March 26, 2025. He posted three straight top-five finishes this fall, including a T-1st place finish at the Gate City Invite with a score of six-under par, tying the program record with a tournament low round of eight-under par (64). He fired off another six-under par at the NCAA Preview in Florida to finish in a tie for fourth, while climbing 26 spots in the final round of the Tartan Invitational to claim fourth place with a score of four-over par. This fall, he holds a 288-8-8 record over opponents with a 68.2 scoring average, recording a team-high six eagles along with 97 pars and 25 birdies.


Kaufman joins McEwen in the top 20 golfers in Division III, moving up eight spots from last season's final rankings to No. 16. Kaufman turned in a T-20th place finish at the Gate City Invite with a score of three-over par before firing a two-under par at the NCAA Preview, finishing in a tie for ninth place. He wrapped up the fall slate with a T-15th place finish at the Tartan Invitational with a score of seven-over par. He holds a 251-41-8 record with a scoring average of 70.0 through nine rounds of action. Kaufman has carded one eagle, a team-high 31 birdies, and added 92 pars as well.


The Blue and White will wrap up the fall slate on Oct. 20-21 as individual members of the team will play at the VSGA Collegiate Individual Championship in Chesterfield, Va. at the Lake Chesdin Golf Club.
